Overview

Ladakh, also known as “Little Tibet”, is a region administered by India as a union territory . It constitutes an eastern portion of the larger Kashmir region. Ladakh is bordered by the Tibet Autonomous Region to the east, the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh to the south, both the Indian-administered union territory of Jammu and Kashmir and the Pakistan-administered Gilgit-Baltistan to the west, and the southwest corner of Xinjiang across the Karakoram Pass in the far north.It is a land of dramatic beauty, with soaring mountain ranges, vast plateaus, and serene lakes. The Great Himalayas and the Karakoram Range dominate the landscape, with some of the highest peaks in the world, including K2 (the second-highest mountain on Earth) and Kangchenjunga (the third-highest mountain on Earth).Ladakh is also known for its rich culture and history. Tibetan Buddhism is the predominant religion, and there are numerous monasteries scattered throughout the region. The people of Ladakh are known for their hospitality and their unique way of life, which has adapted to the harsh climate and high altitude.
